My name is Samantha Nelson and I am a sophomore Biological Systems Engineering major in Delta Delta Delta. Before coming to college, I was indifferent to the sorority experience, because I felt I would only ever need my high school friendships for the years to come. But looking back now, going through formal recruitment and joining my incredible home were experiences I would never change. Both of my older sisters went through recruitment and also joined Tri Delta, so even before I experienced the house I felt accepted and as if I was being taken in by something much bigger than me. I have never felt more thrilled and opportunistic to extend my family legacy before college. The bond I now share with my own sisters is stronger than anything else I could imagine. The girls I have met my first two years within my sorority have become my nearest and dearest friends. I look to the women surrounding me as role models and examples of high class with high standards. I truly feel like I am at my best amongst these girls.
But my sorority experience extends beyond my specific chapter. Being a part of the Panhellenic community has given me an advantage amongst my colleagues. I have learned how important my values stand and formed relationships that will carry on for years past graduation. The entire Greek Community at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln firmly encourages the development of strong character and morale and I believe because of “Going Greek” at UNL, I have the help of thousands to lean on. I already depend on the assistance and support of my fellow Panhellenic sisters with letters of recommendations or advice on career paths. Going Greek lasts way beyond four years and I couldn’t be prouder of where I stand and what I see to come.
